Cool Roofs

Cool Roofs are created by applying a highly reflective paint or sheet with reflective properties. They can also reduce a building's need for air conditioning by up to 30% since they are designed to radiate more solar radiation and absorb less heat than a normal roof. 

This is due to the properties of certain materials to reflect solar radiation back into the atmosphere. As long as the surface of the roof remains cooler due to the extremely reduced heat absorption (to the extent that a cool roof can be 28-33°C cooler than a conventional roof during very high temperatures), a consistently cool temperature is maintained inside the building.

In the Greek market, ready-made cold paints with quite good reflective properties are produced or imported. However, the vast majority of these paints are acrylic-based, i.e. they are materials that are mixed with water. It is well known that an acrylic-based sealant does not have the same durability as a polyurethane-based material mixed with a solvent.
